I Like the Sun, But...

I'm not sure if that's accurate but I feel like most people prefer extremely hot weather to cold weather. Don't get me wrong: I think summer has numerous advantages but there's one thing that really bothers me during that season - the sun! It's so bright and hot and my fair skin does't take it very well. My eyes hurt, I have to were sunglasses all the time and I don't feel very comfortable with that. Besides, it's really not pleasant when you sweat like a pig all day long, even when you try not to move at all. When the sun is so hot I always feel tired and I have no energy to live in general. I know there are people that seem to recharge in the summer sun but I'm definitely not one of them. BUT the sun in November and December is a whole different thing! The solar arc is much lower in the sky, therefore the sunlight colour is a lot warmer, golden, not almost white like in the summer when the sun shines from the zenith. The light is delicate and

Be Active on Your Own Terms

I'm sure you all also noticed that being fit and having an active lifestyle is getting ever-more fashionable and trendy. I think, in general it's a great trend but sometimes people exagerate when it comes to being physically active.  Crowded public gyms and city parks packed up with people who made everyday jogging their New Year's resolution - those are two activities I will never understand. Firts of all I don't really enjoy being watched by strangers when I excersice. I prefer staying at home and not stressing about how ridiculously I look in my "gym outfit". Besides, this option is way more affordable!  And when it comes to jogging - I will never get it. Just running around with no specific place to get to, and you get all sweaty and just exhausted - where's the fun in that?! Now you're probably asking yourself what do I do then to stay fit because in the begginig I said that I generally love the idea of being active. Well, I don't

My Favorite Christmas Songs

Obraz
Although Decmber has barely begun and there are still some brown leaves on the trees, you can already feel Christmas vibes all around. Colourful lights, Christmas trees at every corner and Holiday songs playing in shopping malls. I generally try to ignore all that sparkling and colourful noise, not because I don't like it in general but because I don't want to get bored with Christmas before it even starts. But when it comes to Christams songs I could listen to them thoughout the whole year! And that's what I'd like to share with you today. Here's the list of some of my favorite songs related to Christmas! (Don't worry, Last Christmas  is not included) :D Let It Snow  by Dean Martin I ALWAYS listen to this song when it's snowing for the first time in the season. It's not really a Christmas song but it's related to the winter season. Apart from that, snow is something that helps us emerge into this special Holiday atmosphere. Everybody wants

Do You Know Your Personality Type?

When I was in junior high (so quite a few years ago now) I got totally obsessed with Myers-Briggs Personality Test. I'm not sure if you're familiar with what it's all about so I'll explain it in a few words. The test was created by a psychologist duo: Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs (who are actually mother and daughter) to indicate which type of personality has the person taking the test. They distinguished 16 types of personality. Each one has a name consisting of four letters. Each letter corresponds to one dimension of human behavior. Every one of the four dimensions has two variants. I know it all saound complicated and messy but here's some practical information: 1. The first dimesion tells if someone is an extravert or an introvert. And of course it has two variants: E and I . 2. The second dimesion discribes the way in which the person collects information about the world surrounding them. It can be either sensing - S or intuition - N . 3. The t

My Journey of Learning the English Language

Obraz
Today I'd like to tell you a little bit about what've helped me the most while learning English. Because lessons at school are just one part of it. Let's face it: you won't learn how to speak a language only by listening about grammar and taking countless vocabulary tests. Of course it's all important but it can't be just that. I have to admit though that I was lucky enough to have some really great English teachers during my school years. Firstly in elementary school my parents insisted that my sister and I took extra English classes after school. We would go to the house of our tutor two times a week. He was a retired army officer so you can imagine that he was pretty strict and demanding. For example we had to write a text consisting of at least 15 sentences for each lesson. I didn't like that at the time but now I'm grateful because it taught me how to be regular and organized in my process of learning. Then in junior high I had an English teach

My Place On Earth

Today I'm going to tell you a little bit about my family and my roots. Both my Mom's and my Dad's grandparents after the World War II decided to settle in Lower Silesia, the land that was reclaimed by Poland after the war, in exchange of some teritories in the East that were attached to the Soviet Union. Both of my parents were born and raised in the same small village right next to the city of Wrocław, called Długołęka (the name could be translated to English as "long meadow"). What's more, they were both born in the same year so starting from nursery school they went to the same class. They even danced together a traditional Polish dance "krakowiak" during one of the performances in the nursery school. (Pesonally I think that's adorable!). They were each other's high school sweet-hearts and after getting married they decided they wanted to stay in Długołęka. They built a house there in which we all live right now. And by "us all&q

Was I Born in The Wrong Era?

Everybody has their own favorite type of comfort movie (unless somebody doesn't watch movies at all but that's a whole another case). A comfort movie is your go-to one when you've had a horrible day, you're totally exhausted and the only thing you want to do is to hop under a warm blanket with a bowl of butter cookies (or peanuts in the "fit" version) in one hand and a glass of hot chocolate in the other, and just relax. You don't want to challenge yourself intellectually or in any other way so complicated psychological dramas or anything directed by Andrzej Wajda are out of the question.  Some people like to relax watching a horror movie - I'm not judging but I will never understand that. Others prefer a romantic comedy to cheer them up. As for me, my favorite type of comfort movie is a good, solid costume drama. Preferably based on a Jane Austen novel. I think, what I most love about these films is that they allow me to escape the reality and fo

Get Higher!

So, in today's post I'm gonna brag a little bit. It's just a fair warning from me so that you won't be unpleasently surprised later. But in my opinion, if you achieved something that you consider a big deal, something you'd been dreaming of for a long time, there's no reason not to brag about it. But let's get to the point, shall we? I just love the mountains. Breathtaking views, unpredictable weather, fresh air, the abundance of wildlife and the feeling of being closer to the sun. I even love being out of breath while climbing because then the first breath you take after finally reaching the top cannot be compared to anything else. When it comes to picking the place to go to for summer vacation, my first choice are always the Tatras. I don't care how many times I've been there already. I can't imagine not going there at least once a year. Apart from the beautiful nature you encounter in this region, I'm also very fond of the culture of t

The Wonders of Fall

Obraz
One of my unpopular opinions: fall is the best season ever! I know it's hard to believe but every year I just can't wait for the summer to finally end. I truly hate the hot weather when I'm sweating even if I'm staying indoors and trying not to move at all. It's obviously nice to play in the pool outside or drink cold smoothies during hot summer days, but for me summer could last for a week or two and that would be just enough. But now I survived another summer and I'm finally free to enjoy all the wonderful things I love about the fall! The sun is perfect: not as insanely hot as during the summer but still gives a lot of warmth and not only light as it does in the winter. Also the solar arc is lower in the sky and the sun rays shine through the colourful leaves at the perfect angle. The leaves seem to be all kinds of precious gems and jewels: ambers, rubies and emeralds. Another thing I love about the fall is the variety of fruit and vegetables that you can

Let's Get to Know Each Other!

I'm not gonna lie to myself and think that anyone (but my English teacher) will read this blog, but anyway I thought it would be nice to introduce myself a little bit in the first post. And what's a better way to do it than answering the questions included in the Proust Questionnaire! For those of you who have no idea what the heck is that misterious "Proust Questionnaire" just a quick explanation. It's basically a list of several, deeply personal questions. The questionnaire is told to be created by the famous French 20th century writer, Marcel Proust. At the time it was a sort of social game played in the european drawing rooms. There are several different versions ot the questionnaire. Here's one of them filled in by me. Without further ado let's get to it! 1. The principal aspect of my personality.  For me it's perverseness. I'm not very proud of it but sometimes it turns out to be useful. 2. The qualities that I desire in a man. Responsib
